Adult Ed

The Adult Education efforts are dedicated to bringing quality and orthodox Christian education to the Church on Sunday mornings and other times during the week.

SUNDAY EDUCATION CLASSES

The Transforming Word
Join Suzanne Hearn one Sunday of each season in our church year.  Suzanne will share beautiful illustrations and scripture to accompany her introduction to each of the seasons in our church calendar. She also provides wonderful handouts including the scriptures for each season.

Encountering the Scripture
Have you ever felt like holding your hand up during the service to ask a question?  This is your chance.  Join us as we go beyond simply hearing the Word.  In Webster's Dictionary the definition of encounter is:

1 : to come upon face-to-face
2 : to come upon or experience especially unexpectedly <encounter difficulties>

We shall encounter the Sunday Scripture according to both definitions.  Scripture becomes transformative when we dare to allow it to challenge our perspective, and allow ourselves to be surprised, even shocked as we dare to address the difficult passages.  This is a time we hope will deepen your relationship with the Word.

WEEK DAY EDUCATION CLASSES

NOON BIBLE STUDY
Come join Dr. Dickson three Wednesdays out of the month at noon for a tasty lunch, provocative conversation and a careful yerse-by-verse study of a book of the Bible. This class meets in the Koslow Library every Wednesday when there is no concert at noon. Refer to the Church Calendar for the exact dates each month that the class meets.

KERGYMA: The Bible in Depth

Join us in the Fall.  We are currently on a summer break.

Dr. Dickson will Lead this Bible study every Tuesday except on those Tuesdays of the Great Books Club from 6:30 until 8:00PM and look closely at the Bible in terms of a number of foundational themes which run through the entire sacred text like threads and pull it together into a beautiful unified tapestry.  It is a super way to learn to see the Bible as more than a collection of texts, but even more truly as a text with a profound unity of purpose and an inspired unity of thought.  The trajectory of several fundamental themes and their development in the revelatory history point toward the divine author’s ultimate intentions.  To be particular, Kerygma:  The Bible in Depth involves a careful study of the following:

LANGUAGE STUDIES

Thursday evening is the night to come learn Biblical Greek. We offer seminary-level instruction for the highly-motivated. The classes begin at 7:00 p.m. and generally conclude around 9:00. You can learn to read the inspired text in the original language.

"Insofar as we love the Gospel, to that extent let us study the ancient tongues. And let us notice that without the knowledge of languages we can scarcely preserve the Gospel. Languages are the sheath which hides the sword of the Spirit, they are the chest in which this jewel is enclosed, the goblet holding this draught. So although the Faith and the Gospel may be proclaimed by preachers without the knowledge of languages, the preaching will be feeble and ineffective. But where the languages are studied, the proclamation will be fresh and powerful, the Scriptures will be searched, and the Faith will be constantly rediscovered through ever new words and deeds."  Martin Luther

The location will be in Koslow. The class is offered in a two year format with seasonal breaks. For information on the Biblical Greek class contact Dr. Dickson at bdickson@standrew. com

THE GREAT BOOKS CLUB
The Great Books Club was established in the fall of 2007 and has been a favorite of many since it began. The Great Books Club meets the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A dinner is provided from 6:30 - 7:30 (at a nominal cost) followed by a one-hour discussion on a current book. The discussion is moderated by one of three leaders (Dean McKeachie, Bob Grable and Alann Sampson).
A new class starts in September. Please call the church office (817) 332-3191 if you would be interested in attending. Read More.
