Eastertide

What are the 50 Days of Easter

THE BEAUTIFUL EASTER SEASON

A glorious Eastertide to all! The Easter season encompasses far more than just Easter Day. It includes a span of 50 days, running from Easter Day until the Day of Pentecost (also called Whitsunday). It is often called “The Great Fifty Days.” During this season in our liturgical year, we take time to look at many of the post- resurrection appearances of Jesus to His disciples and friends, including even a group of 500 brethren, during the days that He walked on the earth following His resurrection and before His ascension into heaven 40 days later. Before He ascended, Jesus instructed His followers to wait in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high, and 120 men and woman waited and prayed in an upper room in Jerusalem until the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon them, as recorded in Acts 2. This was the great Day of Pentecost, sometimes called the “birthday” or beginning of the Christian Church. The Easter season is marked with an atmosphere of joy, festivity, renewal, and celebration. Jesus Christ has risen from the dead. The tomb could not hold Him. He is seated at the right hand of the Father and has opened the gates of heaven to those who believe in Him. Alleluia! Alleluia!

“Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Corinthians 15:57
